Scope of the company policy
Process Measurement & Analysis Limited sets out its approach in its Social and Ethical Policy and Modern Slavery Act statement, dated 2 March 2020. It covers PMA’s temporary and permanent employees and people supplied by contractors or employment agencies to work for the company. It also describes the standards PMA expects from suppliers and service providers.
The policy draws on the principles of the Ethical Trading Initiative Base Code. It addresses how commercial decisions can affect workers and communities, including the conditions in which products are made and the way people are treated throughout the supply chain.
Freely chosen employment and fair treatment
The policy prohibits forced, bonded and involuntary labour. Workers choose their employment, retain their identity documents and can leave after giving reasonable notice. It prohibits child labour and recognises the right to join a recognised trade union and take part in collective bargaining where local law permits.
The code sets expectations for written employment terms, reasonable working hours and fair pay. It prohibits disciplinary deductions from wages, discrimination, harassment, intimidation and degrading treatment. It also states that contracting arrangements must not be used to avoid employment or social security obligations.
Safe work and agency responsibilities
PMA’s policy calls for safe, hygienic working conditions, measures to prevent accidents and regular health and safety training. It expects agencies supplying temporary workers to demonstrate that they follow the code and carry out the applicable checks on eligibility to work.
Workers supplied by agencies need to understand their employment terms and the health and safety requirements relevant to their work. The policy recognises that this information may need to be communicated in a worker’s own language.
Suppliers, stewardship and improvement
PMA reviews recognition of the Modern Slavery Act as part of supplier approval and encourages suppliers to work to the same ethical standards. The policy also addresses bribery and corruption, environmental stewardship and fair dealing between buyers and suppliers. Where applicable, PMA encourages fair trade procurement in its supply chain.
The statement assigns overall responsibility for ethical trading within the business and invites feedback on how the policy works in practice. For a procurement or supplier review, tell PMA which provision you are considering and what further information you need.
