Environmental responsibility in our work
PMA’s environmental policy guides how we consider the effects of our activities on the environment and on the people around us. We aim to prevent avoidable impacts, minimise those that remain and take steps to reduce their effects. These commitments apply to how we organise our own work, from our facilities to work that takes us to a customer’s site.
The policy brings resource conservation, waste management, pollution prevention and community responsibilities together. An environmental question can involve more than one of these areas. For example, planning how equipment is moved and serviced also involves thinking about the materials used, the waste generated and how the work affects others nearby.
Objectives and accountability
We maintain a documented environmental management system and work to improve it over time. The system gives us a way to set objectives that can be measured and reviewed. We aim to meet the environmental requirements that apply to our activities and to go further where we can.
Keeping up with environmental legislation and developments in pollution-prevention technology helps us identify changes that may affect how we work. Reviewing those changes alongside our objectives helps keep the policy relevant to day-to-day decisions.
Using resources and managing waste
Our approach is to conserve natural resources, reduce waste and recycle materials wherever practicable. The way materials are selected, handled and disposed of matters throughout the job, from the work carried out on an instrument through to the packaging and materials left afterwards.
Good waste management starts by considering what will be needed for the work and what will happen to materials when they are no longer needed. Planning for both makes it easier to identify what can be avoided, reused or recycled and what needs another route.
Local communities and transport
PMA’s policy includes avoiding nuisance to the local community and maintaining an environmentally responsible transport strategy. We consider how our activities affect people around us, both at our own facilities and wherever work takes place.
Transport, pollution prevention and site working arrangements can overlap. When planning work with another organisation, the nature of the visit, the location and the site’s own arrangements are useful information to discuss in advance.
Communicating and reviewing the policy
PMA aims to help employees and interested parties understand the policy and the responsibilities it sets out. We review it annually so we can check that it remains current and identify opportunities for improvement.
If you need information about PMA’s environmental policy for a project or a supplier review, tell us which activity or requirement the question relates to. Our team can direct the enquiry to the appropriate person.
